The SMIG Team performed a thorough program assessment, identification of strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for improvement. Working with a multidisciplinary surgical team, the hospital successfully implemented enhancements in operational processes that improved patient care, physician, and staff satisfaction.
Major Accomplishments Include:
Revised OR, Preop and PACU staffing plan to align with patient volume and department needs
Filled vacant staff positions; facilitated revised recruitment strategy and made case for elevation of Surgical Tech compensation to match market
Facilitated shift of non-clinical/ clerical functions from nursing to support staff
Improved timeliness of arrival of surgeon and anesthesia team members and first case on time case start
Supported perioperative team with preparation and "Go Live" of major Meditech IT system upgrade
Initiated formation of surgery governance model and multidisciplinary Design Teams to participate in implementation of identified improvements in patient throughput, scheduling, case instrument and supply preparation, materials storage
Revised personnel flow through semi-restricted and restricted areas of OR to comply with regulatory requirements
Re-organized equipment flow and storage in Operating Rooms
Participated in screening, hiring, onboarding and transition to new director
